Fixing broken a700 hotshoe

Help! My a700 took a fall with the 56 am flash attached. Luckily it landed on dirt, but the plastic tracks on the hotshoe broke off (both sides). Luckily everything still works fine, you just have to hold the flash on the camera... Precision says it costs $300 'base rate' to fix the camera regardless of what the problem is. I find that hard to believe. Has anybody here had the same problem, and how did you get it fixed??? I'd hate to cough up $300.... But if I have to.......I will. Thanks in advance.

Hrm. Sony dropped the flatrate in Canada to 120 bucks plus parts. and I think that part is only $30 bucks I though the same thing would have happend in the US by now since their last warranties are a year older than even in Canada. maybe because this is a third party? why not check on sending it to Sony Canada instead and see if they will give you their price.

John it's a job for a camera technician, the part is readily available https://www.servicesplus.sel.sony.com/s ... 98032.aspx, the original x-2179-803-1 has been replaced with x-2179-803-2 now it seems.

Don't forget that you have another option. A good camera repair technician should be able to handle the repair if the replacement part is available - which it does appear to be. You might wish to investigate that possibility also.

Minolta expert Terry Miyahara does not work on Sony cameras, apparently because of some differences of opinion with some of the Sony management chain, but there is another long-time Minolta tech in the Atlanta area with a good reputation who may or may not work on Sonys. I seem to recall that his name is Mark Hama. You may also be able to locate a couple of independent repair techs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with excellent reputations, who might be suitable.

Ouch! I'm late to hear this news, but I'm sorry for the loss. How is the flash gun? And have you sorted out any repair plans yet?

Thanks Kevin- With all the snow we've had of late, I haven't done much about it, I've been too busy shooting. I hope to have a plan here in the next few days, as I have quite a bit of studying to do for a national certification coming up, and I won't be doing much shooting. The flash survived the initial fall at Wurstfest, but was later injured whilst shooting Emma in an abandoned building. I was able to repair that one myself with no problem.. I'll keep ya'll posted. Think about it, John. That parachute shot with your kids. How would you miss such an opportunity to shoot video... ?
Shame on you and Dannelle. What would you tell them in the future? That you didn't have an a77? That's not an excuse.
And then, I didn't want to upset you buddy, but your camera should reveal some kind of a tremor, seizure, prolapse, hernia, decubitus, chancre and fever of unknown origin in the pictures; those happen when something gets broke on the camera.
So my advice, and recommendation, as well as a suggestion to GET YOURSELF AN A77

Hmmmm Good advice Doc- I hear that Sensor Thrombosis with resultant Image Infarction happens frequently with older models.. Best to have a back up.... Just in case. Thnx... Now I just have to convince Dannelle... Keep an eye on the Obituaries just in case!
