Weather Today - In Your Vicinity (2011)

They are all oilfield supply vessels, there are very few fishing boats left nowadays.

The sand around the pillbox keeps moving with the tides. In the past it has been completely covered in sand and in a couple of weeks 5 or 6 feet above it.

It was rather cold and cloudy today here. We took a nice long walk through the neighborhood and took a few shots.

Some interesting shots there. Birma has a nice sunset, looks hot and humid stevecim, jbtaylor's winter scenes look very cold, and I was wondering how they got in and out of the pillbox in Mike's....looks like a good spot to toss a line in, I wondered what the little canal is for in Mark's.

How the weather differs even when they are so near apart...

Love the snow, JBTaylor. The motorway curling away between the thick white blanket is almost graphical in design. The solitary tree is also makes a good shot but I may have gone for a decentered one myself. : )

Steve, seems to have collected some great Sunlight beams. They are indeed reflected on some of the roofcoverings in the shot.

Birma, your scene keeps producing many different colours! : ) A good opportunity to create a collage of the same scene with different colours.

Mikeriarch, the North Sea does look very inviting going by these shots. I like the subtle colours and reflections on the waters washing the beach lazily while the second shot is scenic with those fishing boats in the horizon. Very peace-prone scenes... Must have been a great walk and run for everyone there!

Mark, you chose to go symmetrical and succeeded too! : ) Taking a closer look at the canals is something new for me...

The last one that came in TC Anthony (cat. 2) on Sunday missed us, it slid off a bit south and got Bowen, not much damage but dumped lots of rain and flooded some rivers down there. If this one comes in on it's projected path at the size and strength it is, every town/city between Mackay and Cairns are in serious trouble, the stronger winds will be on the southern side of it when it crosses the coast, (clockwise direction in the Southern Hemisphere). http://www-cluster.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ65002.shtml
If you don't hear from me after thursday for a long time, you will know why, (dang, all the trees in the yard that the birds like will be smashed as well).

Well I have to say thats probably the first time anyone has called the North Sea "very inviting". I can assure you that it is very cold any time of the year and not my cup of tea but the dogs love it. We usually have some very wet and bedraggled Springers on the way home. There were 20 ships sitting anchored in the bay that day.

It's just that I have a soft spot of emotion for the Northern Waters at heart. I know how cold and brutal it can be for those sailing and cruising or fishing out at sea but it's also one of the most prosperous seas and mst important for Earth's climate in general. I also like regions like The Bering Strait and the Arctic and such land pieces....

Strange as it may seem, the photos you took show the North Sea to be rather 'friendly' at the time; no harsh waves hitting the shore or any major restlessness at the viewable sea surface... : )

Would love to see the Springers' photos. : )
