Old Cinema with evening lighting in Scotland

My son wanted pictures of an ex cinema (now community theatre) building in Bathgate Scotland when the lights were on and the light just right at dusk. He brought his A700 and I resolved to test my new A580 high ISO capabilities. The first picture is at ISO800 and the second (15-20 minutes later) ISO1600 both handheld and CZ16-80 in front. I must say that the A580 feels immensely steady handheld. Converted in LR3 from RAW. Main issue at these high settings is Luminance noise. I needed to move the luminance slider to around 30 as the max possible before softening set in. I have mostly stayed away from high ISO shooting until I got my A550. I see my new cameras (A580 and NEX-5 as giving me a new capability and it will enhance my picture taking.

Nice. It sort of reminds me of the Miami Beach Art Deco District where there are many old hotels, theaters, and other buildings of similar style.

Hi Alphaomega,

I like both shots for their documentary style. The second gives away the depth and the bulk of the real space while the first is a good facade shot.

I think it was a good idea to take the photos at dusk when the lights were lighted also. No dark contrasty shadows and the details are all there. And how other than when the lights are on for a cinema theater to be photographed! Cinema is all about light as an art form and the most romantic time to go and see a movie must be when the facade is softly lit like in your photos..

Very different from the Shopping Mall cinema theatres of the present. Very nostalgic!
