Icy here in Texas, schools closed today and tomorrow. I ventured out into the cold to search for photographic opportunities, and found little. Not enough white stuff on the ground, but it was cold as h e double hockey sticks! Now at night -12° C winds up to 20+mph... No more outings for me!

I have been anxiously watching Greg's cyclone here http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ65002.shtml. It is Cat 5 now and just hitting the coast. Fingers crossed for Townsville and everbody in Queensland.

Thanks for the well wishes mvanheenan, Birma, donwae12 and Yildiz much appreciated, I've been busy switching from repairing mode to preparing for Cyclone mode, this one has me worried, it's big.

Over at "The Online Photographer" there was just a comment about the cyclone posted by someone from elsewhere in Oz.

He said, "News from Queensland is slowly filtering through as daylight reveals the extent of the devastation. Poor old Queensland just copped monstrous flooding and now this weather event up in far north Queensland.

"The cyclone made landfall at Tully and Innisfail (between Cairns and Townsville) with wind gusts up into the 270 kilometres per hour region."

If the storm made landfall that close to Townsville, the chances are that Greg was hit fairly hard. Hopefully the damage will not be too bad.

Poor old Queensland seems to have had a really bad time. Hope Greg is not too badly affected. I've been trying to follow Yasi's progress here http://www.abc.net.au/news/events/cyclo ... 3a0270970b. It seems Townsville is a major risk for bad flooding with a second storm surge from the sea. There is no power so it will probably be some time before Greg will have internet access. I guess we'll just have to hope and pray for the time being.

Oh man, by the looks of the photogallery and the newsbulletins the cyclone has destroyed a lot of homes. Fortunately, several newssites repport that as of yet nobody was killed or severely injured.

I hope for the best for Greg, family and fellow countrymen.

I hope that guy posing on the smashed car isn't Greg! It does look bad there, and he was worried about all the trees close to his house.

The snow barely came, mostly it was sleet, and only an inch of snow. It still closed everything down.

Bitter cold today in St. Louis - it's now "up to" -13C, with an expected high of -7C today!

You are right. I think they came out of it very well, no deaths reported from what I've read.

Hi everyone, we finally got power back on after three days. (luckily I had a generator for the beer fridge) There was quite a lot of damage to the foliage around the yard and generally everywhere, I have been too busy cleaning up to go around taking photos about town. The new roof came through with flying colours, no damgage to the house except for the back avocado tree attacking an external blind and breaking a few slats. The front fence had one broken panel where a tree fell through it, but all the flowers were stripped off the trees so the honeyeaters are a bit destitute for the time being.

ps. Ha ha good one DA, yeah I heard about that guy in the boat somewhere before, he was surprised that a croc was trying to eat him, it was up in the NT somewhere I think.
