ps. Some the other birds 'swim' under water as well, especially marine ones, I've often wondered if they are re-evolved penguins or are they birds that are evolving in that direction?

It is called "Spot the Dipper" Greg,
It does show you have to be observant out there in the wild.

Super shots, the 70-400 is a cracking lens and on my “wants” list.
Club photo shoots are a very good way to do the bird “portraits” our local “birds of prey” centre charges far to much, if you can get a good deal well worth it.

I am going to our local? Sony shop, Cardiff cameras next week and see if I can do a deal with them.
I can but hope
Also the weight of it is no more than my 100-300mm f4 Sigma so not bad.

Hidden behind a bush in the garden I sat waiting for some birds to come over and have a bite of the peanuts I laid down for them. All of a sudden there were a Tit and Robin in one of the bushes. You can see I was hiding pretty well in the picture. Not great, but it does tell the story

Two very pretty birds in the same bush, a neat catch, Mark. : )

If peanuts accomplish that, I will be sure to try this method. I always went for wheat seeds and general bird seed.
