Thanks Greg . The growing thing sort of creeps up on you. You put a coat or jumper on her and suddenly realise it is way too small . Tilly will be 3 in about a month. Time flies

Hi Doc - great to see some of your picture again - lovely colours and I like the silhouetted branches.

This is unusual. Usually photographers on the beach shooting surfers have big tripods with a 600mm f4 or 500mm f4 mounted. She is using a Nikon D70 with an old Tele-Astranar 500mm f8 preset lens with T-mount on the beach. Actually, I don't think the brand is Tele-Astranar. Back in the 1970s lots of companies sold basically the same lens with the main difference being the focusing ring. Spiratone sold them and others. Packed away somewhere I have both a Tele-Astranar 500mm f8 and a Tele-Astranar 400mm f6.3 that I bought 37 years ago. I paid $80 for the 500mm in 1974 so that is about $360 in 2011 dollars. Somewhere I have T-mounts for M42, Minolta MF, Canon FD, and Minolta A-mount, but the last time I mounted one of these lenses on a camera was probably in about 1977. You sure don't see these lenses much anymore, or at least I don't.

I don't envy her trying to use that lens over water with the potential glare. This guy http://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews ... roduct=729 gave a similar lens the thumbs down for a few problems, I guess most of them would be similar...

Yes, it is, Ararat valley. In fact what you see is a part of Yerevan. I'm on a hill in Yerevan (fresh air).

Yildiz you're not going to believe this, (our picnic tree), I didn't think it would have survived with so many large trees smashed and blown over, but it did survive all alone and exposed out in the open and almost undamaged...amazing. The city council is using the park now for a mulching dump complete with lots of machinery because of the proximity of the park to where most of the debris is.

Thanks Doc, Birma, it seems a lot of large trees around the suburb got extensively damaged, and they aren't far from the picnic tree, probably not much more than 1/2km.

Amazing! Our veteran picnic tree is impressively green too, as though thossse winds never brushed it. Comparing it to the size of the construction machinery out there one becomes silent in awe.

That's brilliant news, Greg, seeing how the others suffered tot he point of losing their neighbourhood location...

Yes, it is a cheap lens from the 1970s so I suspect it isn't so great compared to a Canon/Nikon 500mm f4.
