You're doing fine, Anna (and welcome!). You need to look at your shots and decide if they convey what YOU want them to convey. No one will ever see the shot just the way you do because they aren't there when you take it, and it's meaning is not the same. That's why some will give you "do this" and some "No, do the opposite of that".

That doesn't meant that you can't technically improve. However, the only way to do that is take lots of shots, change settings to see what effects different camera settings have on the photos, and examine them. It's much easier today when you don't have to pay for developing and printing, plus the EXIF info remembers everything for you - zoom length, f stop, ISO setting, shutter speed, etc. Much easier than taking notes, which always never got done consistently!

Keep practicing, and you'll keep improving!

THe Part II shots of your painter friend with a book in his hands are exactly what I meant in my previous message. Both shots, with a tighter frame look good to my idea of a concept of a shot around these cold and cracked walls.

Part II and Part III shots are more animated shots and I think you're going somewhere with these frames cinematographically.

I've started taking photos since mid-December. A friend of mine gave me Canon 350D with 50mm f1.4 and I was quite happy. I decided to learn photography myself without any courses. And a great advice was given: "Take lots of shots, experiment" (the one you also mentioned above). I shot maybe 7 or 8 times with that camera, mostly portraits and learned a lot on that short experience. (if it is interesting I can post them)

And now when I have a55 in my hands and a lot of ideas, I hope to learn and practice more and more. So I am doing my first steps and I am very happy that you share your opinions.

You guessed right I am interested in cinematography and so I try to create photos that may have that effect.

When I saw those cracked walls and interesting yard, I thought that it could be a great place to take photos.
