Just killing time and came across the remains of what appears to be a long night's work. My teeth hurt just looking at these.
All taken with the a900 and the ZA 85mm.
Looks like he just stepped away from the work bench in between bites.
I've never seen such fresh evidence of beavers.... I find it really interesting as well.. Thanks
Of course it reminds me... What did one unhappy beaver say to the other unhappy beaver??? Its just one dam thing after another!!!
If the last thing you remember hearing is somebody yelling 'CLEAR!!!', assume you've had a problem!!
a77, a700, a200, Minolta 8000i, NEX C3, NEX 5N and more lenses than my wife suspects!
There are holes at the edge of the path (near the water) spaced apart by 20 ft. Escape routes, or future indoor plumbing is already in place.
These guys are working a plan.
The pond is small. There is no damn. This will be their primary residence. I do not recall seeing one there before. Maybe they just moved into the neighborhood.
Thanks for commenting.
Usually it's the soud and motion of running water than makes them want to make Dams but they use them for protection against predators. they work at night usually but you will see them early morning and at dusk. there will be a "Dam" somewhere even if it's not holding back water, it might just look like a pile of sticks and usually there is more than one. they can build a whole complex over night.
They aren't particularly dangerous but their posture changes when you get close to them and they will run at you slapping their tail in the water along the way which is startling but comical.
Interesting comment Javelin. Thanks for the correction on the spelling. I use the other form too much anyway. I surveyed the small pond and found nothing that would serve as a dwelling. Of course we had heavy rain and winds in the past few weeks. Maybe it was destroyed and thus the cause of this recent activity.
