Grey on black - a lament

Unread post by artington »

Having just returned to check out the site after a two year gap I am rather dismayed to find that the Forum pages are still "Grey on Black". While this is rather more legible on my iMac than the PC I used to use it is completely illegible on the iPad which I use almost exclusively for web access.

Now I suppose this sounds a bit trivial (and I know that this format, or similar, is used by one or two others, not least dpreview) but it was probably the main reason I stopped dropping off here a couple of years ago. I found it too hard to read.

It's all rather a shame, because it is very clear that a lot of thought has gone into this presentation, but the fact remains for me that it's a real off-putter. Curiously it seems to work OK for DP Review which may be because they use higher contrast, brighter type than is the case here. Indeed I can read dpreview perfectly passably on my iPad - not so this Forum!

So, apologies if I'm in a minority on this one but there's no point in being a shrinking violet either. But am I in a minority? I wonder.

Oh, as to why I checked the site out again, I am bowled over by the NEX 5 and in particular the ability to use my Leica, VM and Rokkor lenses to create a wonderful, compact travel system. And its great to get back to manual focusing, which is a breeze with the 14x preview on a 960k screen! I can even manage without a VF!

And how pleased I am to have held on to my Rokkor rarities such as the 58/1.2 and the 85/1.7 and, not least, the glorious lightweight Tokina 80-200/4.5.

Regards to all

Go to http://www.photoclubalpha.com/forum/ucp ... e=personal
and change the style on the "My board style:" drop down menu.

You can select a different skin. That is what I do. I have the one that has dark gray text on a white background.

WARNING: Some users here don't use the default text color and instead choose something different. When they do that it sometimes cannot be read or is very difficult to read for people who use different skins. The only font color that works for everyone is the default font color which changes depending on the skin the viewer is using. Here is an example of some text that I will change to a color that won't look good for those with a dark gray background: This might be hard to read for some people.

By the way, I went back and checked to see what the name of the board style I am using is and it is subsilver2. This is the original style, but the default was changed to twilightBB some time back.
