Help me pick one out

Unread post by Dusty »

I just noticed that with my post to Hawks thread about how he got the effects on his photo, I've now been promoted!

As an Emperor of a Minor Galaxy, I hope that the wonderful Subsuming Vortexes of Brilliance and my fellow Emperors will help me to pick the right galaxy. I'm looking for an easy going one, where I won't have to rule with an iron fist. Something with lots of laughter, a bunch of practical jokers, and Three Stooges and Marx Brothers fans in it.

Of course, I'd like lots of photo opportunities, and I may have to issue an edict that OFVs will always be an option.

Oh yeah, I'm only fluent in English, but I'm passable (or at least, once was) in Portuguese.

I'm open to suggestions!

Well I reckon Dusty could be Emperor of Andromeda if he likes, ( very large neighbouring spiral, M31http://iimagespace.com/page/ds/m31.htm) I think it was named after a pretty cool chick too, when I was an Emperor I sort of secretly thought of ruling over Andromeda now and then...but Dusty I bequeath it too you, treat it well.
Greg

ps. Actually come to think of it there is NGC253, http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap030525.htmla Galaxy in Sculptor that does have a lot of Dust in it, so Dusty could rule that one and Birma could have Andromeda, or maybe even swap now and then, anyway look em over and see what you think. :D

Wow  To be offered a galaxy by a SVOB! Bit worried that Andromeda is not minor enough? It looks a bit showy anyway and the atmosphere wasn't quite right. Do you have anything smaller with a bit more colour?

Well Birma I believe M51 the Whirlpool Galaxy http://www.spacetelescope.org/images/heic0506a/ is available at the moment, it has lots of bright red Hydrogen nebula giving birth to stars, seems pretty well looked after by the previous owner and you get a bonus small Galaxy on the side. The only problem is it's not in the immediate neighbourhood, it's a warp9 job to duck back and forth from. We have the M104 Sombrero Galaxy http://www.spacetelescope.org/images/opo0328a/ listed also but I'm not sure of it's status at the moment. On special is the Large Magellanic Cloud because it has a very noisy neighbourhood...the Tarantula nebula http://www.spacetelescope.org/images/opo9912a/ in it, but just say the word and it's yours. :D

Ah - M51 looks just the ticket. I'll take that one please Greg. I think the galaxy on the side gives the potential to "add value" :D . I am off to write my coronation speech for my new galactic subjects, and put the finishing touches to the warp drive. (I heard they have isolated another atom of anti-matter recently and so I should be able to fuel up quite soon  .)
