NEX-7 announcement in three months time?
Re: NEX-7 announcement in three months time?
If it has a clip-on or built in EVF and an a-mount flash shoe, then I would be interested with it as a second camera as:
1. a macro camera for my manual focus bellows system, and
2. a tilt shift camera with adapters
I'd like to buy it w/o any lens.

An A-mount hot shoe would almost be a requirement for me to get truly interested in the NEX system, though with a sync speed of only 1/160th, I wouldn't be likely to select an NEX for critical flash work. Still, there are simple work-arounds for those who do:
Wireless flash trigger for Sony NEX
Wireless flash trigger for Sony NEX

You know, come to think of it, it should be fairly easy to make an adaptor to an a-mount hot shoe that screws into the NEX flash mount. That would open up a lot of options for folks....

I think Sony didn't thought about it and they have not anticipate until now the need for a hotshoe. Probably the easiest thing to do (...) is allowing wireless flash with other Alpha flashes.Lonnie Utah wrote:You know, come to think of it, it should be fairly easy to make an adaptor to an a-mount hot shoe that screws into the NEX flash mount. I hope the next NEX (5x or 7) will resolve this, and a EVF.

Re: NEX-7 announcement in three months time?
So Sonyalpharumors have finally managed to get hold of an SR4 classed rumour that the upcoming NEX-7 will have an EVF similar to that rumoured to be in the A77
That could make me interested if a body only version is released. On the other hand I may go for the A77 or 65 depending on specifications and size/weight. The lack of additional genuine E-mount lenses from Sony, Sigma and Tamron is putting me off investing in more NEX cameras. What good is a string of cameras without lenses. When the NEX-7 is released there will be four NEX cameras released but only three lenses. Not good enough. Someone suggested Sony is a P&S company, well that is P&S thinking just pushing cameras and forgetting about lenses. Finally I am getting rumors about the future NEX-7 too! Sources are confirming the NEC-7 is coming in late August. But the news I can share today is that it has indeed an integrated viewfinder. We have been told it is the same 3 million dot OLED viewfinder from the A77. The EVF has a high refresh rate to avoid flickering and other issues you have with current viewfinder. Everybody told me that viewfinder is a huge step forward to anything yo have seen before (better than the Sony A55 EVF, better than the external Olympus VF-2 viewfinder).

Re: NEX-7 announcement in three months time?
They sure can come up with a fully functional NEX body, like including a fully functional custom-tailored a-mount converter doing fast AF even with the screw-drive lenses, then the best available EVF, then the best sensor they have...
Now imagine they did... and at a pricetag of a Sigma SD-1 or about?

Re: NEX-7 announcement in three months time?
So we are now at Sonyalpharumors.com SR5 for the release of the upcoming NEX-7 and in addition we get a NEX-5E thrown in for good measure http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-conf ... n-october/
Release date sometime August for October availability. I wonder what sensor Sony might pack into the NEX-5E? Somehow I don't think that the C3 16Mp sensor would be big enough. A duo each with 24Mp?
I am afraid that my desire to add to my current NEX-5 is tempered by the lack of dedicated E-mount lenses.
Somehow Sony seem to lack the basic understanding that no avalance of fancy new models will make up for the lack of lenses. I have doubts that the current pancake and 18-55 will do full justice to 24Mp and the 18-200 is simply too large. A-mount through the LA-EA1 adapter is simply too slow and must be considered an interim solution only. I am not interested in starting the pursuit of old manual focus lenses at this stage. No new E-mount lenses - no new purchases by me.

Re: NEX-7 announcement in three months time?
To me, the worst problem with current Nex system is with the bodies rather than with the lenses.
I can't be happier by simply using the adapted lenses with the peaking focus aid. But I can't stand the horrible purple/blue ghosting and corner smearing delivered by the design of the hot mirror (IR filter) of the current Nex bodies including the new C3.
The stupid thing reflects back to the sensor tons of the primary sensor-top reflected light, hence the smearing and off-centre ghosting with all the lenses not providing a sufficiently collimated output, especially including the current native ones.
And by the way, all current Sony SLT/SLR bodies share the same stupid IR filter design that also creates a lot of PF with certain lenses, but having the lenses farther removed from the sensor they don't ever get much corner smearing.
All this means that the good wide-angle results with the Nex may be achieved only by using huge adapted lenses like Samyang 14f2.8 or one has to use the native 16mm with the WA adapter but then crop the result back to 15-16mm.

Re: NEX-7 announcement in three months time?
Agreed we all want more lenses and at the current speed of development it'll take a while.alphaomega wrote:Somehow Sony seem to lack the basic understanding that no avalance of fancy new models will make up for the lack of lenses.
But even with just 3 lenses the NEXes fly off the shelves so Sony doesn't need to worry too much.

Re: NEX-7 announcement in three months time?
Aren't there already more NEX bodies than lenses? NEX-3, NEX-5, NEX-C3, NEX-VG10, NEX-FS100 (5) vs SEL-16F28, SEL-1855, SEL-18200, SEL-30M35 (4)
That's not a good balance.

Well, if you includes the wide angle and fisheye adapter, you'll have 6 lensesKevinBarrett wrote:Aren't there already more NEX bodies than lenses? NEX-3, NEX-5, NEX-C3, NEX-VG10, NEX-FS100 (5) vs SEL-16F28, SEL-1855, SEL-18200, SEL-30M35 (4)

Eh, we'll let them account for one whole lens together.

Re: NEX-7 announcement in three months time?
The problem is that putting aside the Nex camcorders, we are left with three Nex still bodies that really are just one and the same dumbed down P&S body.
And then we have 3+ native lenses quite capable of producing very fine pictures whenever the body capabilities are not limiting. One of those native lenses, namely the 18-200, is the best superzoom available of all mounts/systems. And we have absolutely no still body to put that superzoom on.
So now the success of the Nex system really hangs on if there is a real fully functional Nex still body. The existing bodies can well live with adapted lenses, and they simply don't deserve any new advanced lenses developed for them alone. If no such body ever surfaces, the Nex is to be reduced to video-only future.

Re: NEX-7 announcement in three months time?
So here is an SR4 sonyalpharumor with a picture of a supposed NEX-7 prototype. http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr4-hot- ... the-nex-7/
If that is in the ballpark we will be getting not only an EVF (or whatever) but also a proper Alpha hotshoe. Things are looking up indeed and plenty of buttons. Also the new Zeiss 24mm lens.
Been out again with the NEX-5 and 16mm/18-55 combo. Wonderful for weight and quality fine, but AF slow and even auto exposure is pedestrian. Composing is OK in sun with my ClearViewer as can hold camera/lens combo with one hand and fire shutter whilst using the other to shadow when required. Not ideal but doable. So I am committed to NEX, but I need something like this device coupled with faster AF/AE and more dedicated E-mount lenses fielding high IQ to handle 24Mp.

Uhuh, so now we must all get over-optimistic with that 3D computer-rendered image made with some cheap old proggie?alphaomega wrote:So here is an SR4 sonyalpharumor with a picture of a supposed NEX-7 prototype.
