Flowers 2011 (Photoclubalpha Flora)

First two shots are in the Flora rather than Flowers category. The seasons are starting to turn in the local hedgerows here.

Growing wild in the verge was this spectacular Buddleia. It had an attendant crowd of busy bees.

All with A700 + Tamron 60/2 (I love this lens!)

I rudely overlooked DA, Birma, and Greg's flowers... They're very very good.
Very pretty flowers Markus. What is the name of the second one? I took this one while in San Francisco, and forgot to look at the little plaque with the name on it!

I don't have a clue about what flowers these are. I just ran into them while shooting some butterflies. Beautiful flowers though.

Great shots of the seasons berries Birma, and I like that one with the bee especially, that’s a great bee shot. There are quite a few bird species here that would make short work of those berries I reckon.
Those ones from Mark and John are spectacular flowers also; I spent some time browsing through flower encyclopaedias too see if I could find them but to no avail.

Ps. My sister has a similar sort of one to the blue one of yours Mark, but hers is orange-yellow, I’m not sure if they are of a related species.

That is an interesting flower Greg. I guess it is a native of Australia?
I think Mark and I have pictures of a Bromeliad - Pink Aechmea Fasciata - Starburst Spikey Flower. I found it here http://www.shutterpoint.com/Photos-View ... ?id=649602

Ah that's the one for sure John; a Bromeliad, I got sidetracked in the Grevilleas after I noticed one of those looked of similar type of presentation, but that proved to be a dead end.

Greg, it seems like your sister has the same species of plant in her garden. Nice colors too! Now for the identifing. I'll be on the lookout for the name.

EDIT: Greg, after a quick search I'm pretty sure the plant your sister and I shot is actually a kind of Bromeliad too But as that species is HUGE, I didn't find the exact one. I'll find out sooner or later though

From the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park. I should have taken pictures of the plaques that named them as well, as I can't remember the name of this. John
