WWII in Color

Unread post by KevinBarrett »

I found a cache of wonderful color photographs from WWII, documenting home front activities. These pictures really are stunning, and the lighting is particularly clever:

Kevin, you can find all of these at SHORPY
The ones you pointed were done by Alfred Palmer. Narrowing your search on him will yield the same results plus much much more.
BTW, you may find lots and lots of other WWII shots there done by others, including the great Ansel Adams.
Anyway, thanks for the link. I love pictures of WWII machines (tanks, airplanes, guns, ships....)

Many of those photos were taken at the Douglas Aircraft Company plant in Long Beach, California.

Some years ago I worked with an engineer who was there during the war. He said that the Long Beach plant produced one airplane an hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Douglas also operated a number of other production facilities all over the US - two more in the Los Angeles area alone.

With best wishes,
