I have looked up the AP blurb for their next issue (Tuesday coming)

I think that the key point is comparison of the sensors (same Sony 16Mp CMOS) and a bit of speculation. The NEX-C3 is the most capable mirrorless in production and I will buy AP to look at Sipley's thoughts. He seems to me to be pretty level headed and worth reading. Don't prejudge.

AP isn't a bad mag I get the odd one now and then and have done for a good few years. But as with any magazine it's more often a case that an article is written to somewhat "sensationalise" things rather than provide an accurate measure of the current state of affairs. Nothing wrong with that just take it as a bit of fun rather than dead seriously.

AP can do some decent articles..sometimes their reviews are well off the mark other times respectable enough. It's been a magazine that's more useful for the "photo stuff", the odd price checking on bits..and the news section a lot more than the other stuff. Still it's light years ahead of Whatdigitalcamera...and just to add insult to injury photographyblog have recently hired a new reviewer who ranked as probably the least competent camera review person I've ever seen. But that story is for another day.

There aren't that many good publications around on-line or printed and it's been this way for some time now. Though Ken Rockwell is saying great things about the new ownership "pop photo" mag which last time I looked was about 93% adverts a couple of photoshop tutorials and a few pretty damn awful reviews slapped in there terrible magazine if I ever saw one.

I wonder how many people would have bought an updated A700 if Sony had brought that out a year ago or even 6 months ago with the 16 MP sensor while they were also working on this SLT model. I don’t know how much the lack of video would have affected sales on an updated A700 but I wouldn’t have cared if it had been included or not, it'd be ok as long as it didn't affect any part of it being equal too the user interface on the previous model.
In order too have an OVF the same as in the A700 it would have to have MF in live view using the rear tilt screen and that would have been fine by me as well, that way you could either use it as a standard DSLR with a proper full bright OVF and PDAF or use it with mirror up MF and live view on the rear screen for macro, studio, architectural etc. if desired. Sony could have also included video but only with MF, and that would be ok too if working off a tripod, it’s not that hard to manual focus.
So I wonder how many would have looked more favourably on a model like that instead of the all electronic 24MP A77 if given the choice.

Well, I for one have been looking for that camera, and would have bucked up for one if available. They could have just stuffed the 16 MP sensor into the 700 body, added the LV and tilt LCD, and had a real winner on their hands. It could have been the 750, and they could still put out the 77, and a 770! GPS could have also been an option the 750g, or 755, whatever they wanted to call it.

It seems Sony's strategy was to make entry level cameras more P&S like and move enthusiasts to the FF models. Now, with rumors that all FF models will now be SLT, there's nowhere else to go except somewhere else.

This will be a contentious thing to say on a Sony forum, but maybe the best thing is for the a77 to be as bad as it appears from the samples, be a sales flop, die a quick painless death, and for Sony to get a wake up call.

Then we could all get proper Sony cameras again......

I fear that Sony would interpret a failure of the A77 as meaning that it didn't have enough fps and mps .
