O-bon matsuri (festival) in Waikiki

Last week I went to an o-bon matsuri (festival) with some friends in the evening at Waikiki. Went to it last year too. O-bon is a Japanese tradition in August and since there are so many Japanese descendents in Hawaii there are also many Japanese traditions observed here (same for Chinese, Filipino, Portuguese, etc.). The spirits of the ancestors are celebrated for about three days I gather Henry, and at the end there is the floating lanterns as well, it's a pretty big deal by the looks, as festivals go that is. Interesting shots, I like that last one ha ha.

ps. Your friend Hiromi takes her photography seriously, a 7D no less, has a 100% OVF, that'd be a good camera, have you had a play with it?

I like the second shot most. It shows the rhythm with a great expression of the face.

Great series Henry - hope you get some pictures of the floating lanterns. I agree with the Doc - that second drummer picture has a great expression .

She had a, I think, 450D until a few months ago, but wants to get more serious so someone told her she should spend a lot more money on a 7D and big lenses. It is a nice camera and she is learning.

Last year when I was in Tokyo I had a chance to play with a 7D a few times at Yodobashi and Bic Camera (big camera stores). Very nice camera, but it is bigger/heavier than my A700 and Canon 30D so not good for travel. The 60D I have now is better in that regard than the 7D.
