Nice pictures Charlie, I like #2 especially, plus it is always nice to see pictures of the photographer himslef . The grass seems to be turning from its summer green in to autumn brown up there.

When one has been away from the forum for some time like I have and photos accumulate to line up in a series of wonderful story-line impressiveness like in this thread, it's all the more joy to admire the passing of beauty with each one... : )

The closeup of the silvery saddle is amazing in the second shot while the other two show the grandness of the actuall landscape...

Charlie, what range it this? Rockies? Where are these shots taken?

They look like you're taking them from a fairly high elevation already, which may just mean you're hiking into them and shooting.

And yes, they are all lovely!

Dusty, where I live we have 5 nearby ranges, Pioneers, Boulders, Smokies, Sawtooths and Whiteclouds, where the above shots are taken. The geology is totally different in all 5. These ranges and hundreds more are part of the Northern Rocky Mtns.

The ecology of the northern rockies is in deep, deep trouble, because a warmer climate means a huge increase in bugs and fire.

In this shot you can see the massive fire which swept the area just a few years ago:



closer to home, another mega-fire swpet through places that had not burned in 500 years:



but the fires are nothing compared to the damage done in the last 10 years by the Mountain Pine Beetle:

A critical stand of whitebark pines, the cornerstone of the high altitude ecosystems in the northern rockies. Nearly 90% of mature trees have been killed, many over 1000 years old.

Those are surely alarming, Charlie.
I didn't know about mountain pine beetle. Very interesting.

Both look worrying Charlie . There is a similar problems with a bark beetle in Scotland.
