There is a really effective 3D effect to the picture. Very sharp focus to the figures that makes them stand out from the frame.

These local people (not tourists) were just hanging out there near The Wall (in the background on the left) when I walked by. I turned and took 2 photos. This is the second one. The first one is very similar, but the guy in front was looking off to the right (my right) and the girl was sort of looking in a slightly different direction. The second photo they noticed me and looked. I think a lot of the 3D effect you see is just because it is sort of 3D in the sense of a foreground and background which are both there and the foreground contrasts so much with the background. My B&W conversion, I think, enhances that look. Doing the B&W conversion I played with color mixer some to get a look I liked.

By the way, the guy on the left is sitting on a metal sculpture of a surfer with a seal. I probably have several photos, but at the moment this is the one I found on my website:

Very nice and makes me want to visit your country again. My wife and I were there in 2001, but it has already been a decade. The time just slips by too darn fast! If you guys could arrange to get the dollar up for just awhile we would get ourselves over there again pronto. These days the weak dollar makes me hesitate to go to some places (mostly Europe, but these days Japan too). I may just have to get used to it though. I remember that at that time we met up with a woman I met in Africa in 1993 who lives in Birmingham. In the intervening years we had both gotten married so us two couples spent lots of time together for 3 days. One evening we were on a drive somewhere in the countryside and stopped to eat at a country pub. It was fun.

By the way, I know what you mean about the occasional unwanted object interfering with the photo you want to take. Problem is less difficult than many people believe though. I always carry a couple of sticks of dynamite and a chainsaw with me when I am taking photos. A few minutes work and all is good. Yes, dynamite is not always easy to get these days, but a hell of a lot easier than the C-4 plastic explosives I always used to use. The C-4 though was better for backpack travel -- a bit lighter and smaller. Ahh, the good old days when a man could carry manly things around without any cares.

I agree Henry you need those sort of items as well in case you need too construct a hide for Ghost Elephant photos for example, and the local hardware might not have any in stock.
