Each and everytime I see an abbreviation I have to refer either to Wiki or at least "google" it. It's something I may learn, you can say, but really? Learning abbreviations? Thanks! I rather see it as a discrimination.
Please, no abbreviations.
Doc, I didn't think I used any abbreviations. I am usually fairly careful of that. What abbreviation are you wondering about?

yes, it's the VLA.
Sorry, I did not mean to hurt anyone, just a request.
I was reading some articles this morning with lots of abbreviations, and I was so embarrassed and furious to check every abbreviation... and then suddenly here.
Eventually i wrote those lines that I probably shouldn't, so here it goes... I'm embarrassed again.
So I'm sorry to change the main subject, and I apologize in front of all of you and specially Kevin, whom I probably offended.
Back to the Grassback, shall we?

First, you have nothing to apologize about. Second, I understand your frustration. Third, I will try to remember not to use abbreviations. I even usually try to remember to spell out United States of America state names, such at Utah instead of UT, California instead of CA, etc. I think I have forgotten though and have written BC sometimes instead of British Columbia and UK instead of United Kingdom. Of course, you know many already, but some other people may not. Also, I sometimes write things such as IMO (in my opinion) and maybe a few other internet created abbreviations. I will try to remember about this stuff though. When I write emails to my friends abroad, especially Japanese, I try to be very careful of abbreviations, acronyms, colloqial expressions, difficult/complicated grammar, and unusual words when I write in English. On these forums I often forget to do those things though.

There are internationally known abbreviations which everyone knows, such as US, UK, USSR (believe me that still exists, unfortunately), CIA, KGB and so forth.
Internet abbreviations are fine even photo abbreviations in photo forums.
We had a joke on abbreviations:
A farmer who had a 4th grade school education was invited to the XXIV-th conference of the Communist party of USSR. Upon his return to his village, the wife asks: what important things you learned? And the farmer replies: "Oh, they are so educated there I have learned much, they speak everything with abbreviations". And so, after dinner the farmer says: "BST". The wife looks strangely and asks "what?".
"You see, you are uneducated too, I meant: Bring Some Tea" replies the husband.

If the farmer had been polite and considerate of his wife he should have also said, "BSFYA."

BSFYA = Bring some for yourself also.

This looks pretty close to what my eyes saw. It really doesn't happen too often that the screen image looks close to the immediately perceived reality.
