A very informative read, I'm still getting to grips with the a77's EVF and don't mind telling you it's going to be a struggle but I'm determined to make it work for me! I like you, see it for it's positive aspects and your'e a55 write up is helping me both understand whats happening in Camera and how to get the best from the rather different Tech it employs...

Thanks a lot! I have to add that I am the kind of photographer that don't spend a lot of time using the viewfinder. I use the viewfinder to frame the scenes that grab my attention, then to check exposure and focus. Right on, not so much dwelling. What matters at the end is the result.

Also, I am not allergic to noise, slightly out of focus photographs or a bit camera shake IF the content is very good; when such intended lack of technique is helpful for visualising the idea or concept of the photographer or artist. Of cause good technique is important, and every photographer should know her/his camera and image editing software to know. That said, noise, lack of sharpness, "bad" exposure, "weird" tonal curve, strange cropping etc. are also visual effects well worth learning to master. Just look at the vigorous work of many artists using photography as their medium. Now I am not an artist, just a mediocre photographer taking pictures that look like what we expect from ... mediocre photographers!

Well not to sound too crawly but I aspire to be as mediocre as you are, your'e night shots (Something I used to love doing!) are inspiring to me anyway! Lovely stuff and the bonus is you're not backwards in sharing how you do it,which is rather refreshing. I'm not adverse to a bit of noise either but hate lack of sharpness, I annoy the hell out my other half for taking the Tripod with me everytime we go Fellwalking. (or is that Fjellwalking?) Then Moaning and wheezing (Arthritis and Asthma!) all the way to the summit cause it's all too heavy! Working on the other stuff and still learning all the time, it never stops does it?
You should write more articles Magnar, you have a good style which is easy to read, (Your Teaching at play?) you kept my attention anyway! Something difficult with my lack of concentration where "Techie" stuff is concerned, I imagine though articles like this take a lot of Hours to prepare and could ruin a perfectly good pastime...
