I thought and agreed with you Yildiz that Frangipani was an Italian sounding name, and as it turns out it is, here’s a quote from Wiki “The common name "Frangipani" comes from an Italian noble family, a sixteenth-century marquess who invented a plumeria-scented perfume.”
Yes Birma I guess there are quite a few flowers around if one looks, at first glance there doesn't seem to be a huge difference, I guess it's because different things flower at different times of the year here.

I was oh so very tempted to post this in the "tiny sensor revenge" thread, but decided to behave myself. APS-C may not be exactly "tiny", but after testing an A77 for a while last week, my mind was completely made up -- my new A900 arrived last night, so this is probably one of the last shots (at least new ones) I'll post from the "tiny sensor" 700.

Thanks for the Wikipedia info. I also read it. Interesting facts on the family. The name actually was translated as "bread-breakers" by the wiki. Interesting expression... breaking bread. : )

Yes nice flower photo, the light seems to be very even without over exposed highlights and still has some contrast, so it seems to be working very well.

The rim light interacts beautifully with this flower, Marcell.

The symmetrical roundness of the flower is all the more accentuated with the 'rim', gving it a 3D feel.

I think that you can make really large prints of such shots and exhibit them. They do pop out of the 2Dness of any surface.

Thanks for the kind comments! I like this rim light more and more, so you can expect more pictures from me in the future. It would be interesting to try it outdoor but it's winter here.

Making the whole adapter was quite a bit of work, but fun. Now, setting up such photos is very simple. I just hold the frame (and the attached flash) around the flower, and shoot. There is also a paper box on the on-board flash of my nex to prevent light reaching the subject from it and it directs a bit the light to the wireless flash. By moving the layer up and down you can achieve different effects.
