From one extreme to the other on Brinsty Common

The end of a beautiful winter day gave me the chance to try out a couple of my recent Nex acquisitions. I headed across the 'border' in to Herefordshire, visiting Bringsty Common.

Both of these are shot with the Nex 5 and SEL 16mm with the VCL-ECF1 Fish-eye converter. I can see that shooting with this field of view is going to take some getting used, and experimenting. I ended up with the horizon in the middle of the shots to keep the horizon straight.

Both converters (the fish eye and the ultra-wide) are very nicely made as DK says in his article on the same, and they come very nicely presented in protective carry cases. They are a real bonus to the Nex system. (Has anyone found a neat way to add a distinguishing id. to the two the carry cases?)

After playing with the fish-eye for a bit I decided to try the tele end for a while.

Thanks Henry . I can tell you that about half a mile away down the hill there is a rather splendid pub. Sadly it was not on the itinerary on this particular day May be next time.

The shots with the slanted warm light are nice but I also liked the one with the dark green landscape.

Very nice vistas Birma, I noticed the track leading too the pub doesn’t seem anywhere near as well worn as the one on the holiday Island you took a photo of. No white stuff covering the countryside yet by the looks but the grass looks very green and lush. It looks like you kept the camera exposure in check just a little to keep that evening feel, nicely done.

The frost had mainly disappeared with temperatures as high as 5 by this time in the late afternoon. You can see some small patches of white frost where hedges or the lie of the land have kept the sun off the frost. It would have been all white again by this morning after another clear night. Not so much fun when having to scrape the windscreen on the car at 6am on the way to work .

The well worn path to the pub is on the other side of the hill . Very good of you to remember that well worn path on Skye on the route to the Sligachan.

You're right jb - there were some clouds near the horizon that robbed me of the last few rays slanting across the landscape. When I arrived at the location there were some really nice shadows but a friendly dog walker wanted to tell me about some other great places nearby and so I missed my opportunity. Next time .

I know how you feel. While walking in Edinburgh, I was stopped by someone who saw my a700. He wanted to talk shop and all I could do was count the seconds I was losing as the sun set on this beautiful town. Tough to shrug someone off like that. Probably lost a dozen shots as the light fell. Still bothers me to this day. After all, not sure when I am ever going back.
