Hi Dennis, I like the colour and sparkle in the first. Not so sure the shape is quite there in the second. I imagine there is a lot of trial and error in thsi sort of thing .

One of todays pictures found this fly sitting on a granite rock sunbathing in the spring sun +15C today.

the second picture is wrong it should had been another one where the water was like a ring falling out to the sides )
most had been late when i posted
it looked almost like this one but with red color behind instead of the blue this has my daughter age 12 taken.

Found a macro shot I was meaning to upload to the forum a long time ago. : )

A bug landed on one of the scraped walls of the garden pool during the renovation process and I was able to register it on my Sony HD Camcorder. (still a Sony, which counts, right?)

I couldn't identify the bug which apparently can fly. If anyone knows what it is called I'd appreciate it. : )


Edit: I finally likened it to a Stink Bug, though the exact name of the species is still unknown to me.

Yildiz m’dear I think that beetle is one of the so called ‘stink bugs’ http://www.google.com.au/search?q=stink ... 7&bih=1060 but I think they would probably fall more properly under the heading of sapsuckers or assassin beetles but there is little to be found on the web searching for those for some unknown reason.
Very nice rendition btw, lovely bokeh.

Informative images indeed. None are the same as the one in the photo but at least we got the bug right.

Here's an other one which is green from the same renovation period while the workers were fixing the boards of the deck. Apparently they are common beetles and come in different shapes and colours.

A Stink Bug? Hahahah!

Yes and it’s a reasonably apt description if one should land on your head accidentally and get briefly tangled in your hair before you swipe it off, you will then know why they are called stink bugs because they sure do have a powerful acidic stink when agitated…pretty harmless I think but not a recommended experience. There are some here as well, I’ve seen them occasionally on plants, but not easy to find when you want one.

Sorry, can't help but laugh because of the name. Poor creatures, if only they knew.

I would give Yildiz' Stink Bug a nickname: "Stinky"

P.s. I didn't comment on the images itself. For a camcorder macro they are not bad at all. I like the Stink Bug image, nice DOF and attractive background.

I know exactly where the "stink bug" name came from: try to hold that insect with your fingers for a few seconds and then try to smell your own fingers...
My advice: don't try that.
