Doc, that is better, but this shot, IMO, deserves more work. We all prefer different things though so I don't want to impose my preferences on you. I downloaded your jpeg and spent about 2-3 minutes on it and, IMO, I was able to improve it quite a bit. Working on the raw, of course, would be better. I tried to PM you and attach the jpeg, but the forum software said that I could not attach a file with the jpg extension.

How about this, Henry?

Doc, I received your PM saying you would like to see what I did and since I can't attach it to a PM I will put it here. I used PSE 9 and spent a couple of minutes on it and did the following:

1. Shadows/Highlights: reduced highlights by 30
2. Levels: shadows 5, midtones 1.1, highlights 255
3. Saturation: master 5, red 20 (maybe 15 would be enough)
4. USM: radius 60, amount 6, threshold 0

Note that I just used your jpeg and then resaved at level 7 to create another jpeg so the quality gets reduced each time. I chose level 7 because that is the maximum I could use and still keep the file size to less than the 250kb max of this forum software. All of the things I did in steps 1-4 could be adjusted with lower or higher values, to taste. Also, different monitors will make the photo look somewhat different. If it was my photo I probably would spend more than a couple of minutes on it and get it a bit better, but this was just a quick and dirty job to show what one might do. Your taste may be completely different though and that is fine. Commenting on anyone's photo is such a tricky business, but IMO this one is deserving of your effort to get the most out of it. You may totally prefer the one you posted. I like the OOF green leaves on the lower left corner too.

Hmm, have to try this myself. Frankly I seldom manipulate the saturations but I guess I should really give it a try.
On this particular shot I was playing with the temperature and tint and still not getting the real colors. So now I know where to address.
I deeply thank you Henry... and grrr, I have lots of shots to adjust now.

Very interesting Henry - it is always fascinating to understand someone's PP approach. The things that appear differently to me in your version are an apparent brighter picture overall, and the blood, claws and the eye really stand out now.

The face-flat-fallen looking prairie dog is funny and the Rhino is good for a neat reminder of the dinosaurs. The b&w processing also enhances the ancient qualities of the animal.
