Panoramas from Alaska

This one is looking at the Dalton Highway from right (Fairbanks) to left (Prudhoe Bay) or South to North at you look at the photo (Ice Road Truckers, anyone?). There is a bridge to the right that is supposedly ONLY bridge in US that crosses Yukon River. Other two bridges are Canada, I am told. The reference to Ice Road Truckers is a TV show that captures the truck drivers who haul freight on the Ice Roads from Fairbanks, AK to Prudhoe Bay and other areas. This rest stop was about 40 odd miles south of Arctic Circle. The white line at the back is Trans Alaskan Pipeline that runs North-South for about 799 miles from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez, Alaska, northern most free (of ice) water port in U.S. The orange structure is called headache bar and it is to prevent any truck taller than or carrying load taller than the horizontal bar. The height of the bar being same as the height of the pipeline at that point. By the way, the oil is pumped at 100oF and it actually expanded the pipeline so now it measures 800 miles.

Fabulous panos Sury . Your Alaska trip pictures just gt better and better. I think this our my favourites so far. The wide angle views seem to reflect the wide open spaces of Alsaka. We've had the Ice road truckers show on the tv here as well. It is AMA amazing route. Not for the faint hearted!

Those Ice Road Truckers are not faint hearted/complete loons! I can't imagine risking that much for a job!
