Something fishy is going on in New Orleans

My wife and I went to New Orleans recently for some 'just the two of us' time. Of course, my camera was included in the 'two of us'! Unfortunately my son Ian was away near Toronto with several of my lenses, and my a200. To compensate for the paucity of lenses I bought a Rokinon 8mm fisheye for the trip. That lens is a lot of fun for the price, and great for a place like New Orleans. Here are a few from the trip taken with the lens. I hope you enjoy. John

For me 1,6 and 8 are the best. I am not sure I like the that distorted view. An acquired taste perhaps?

Hi John,

The first shot of the first post generates the typical soul/jazz city spirit of New Orleans. I like the abandoned, solitary brass instrument against the urbanscape. Matches with the desolute appearence of the plaza.

I like most of your shots witht the new lens. Especaily the centralized subjects like the statues and street turns embraced by shapes due to the distortion by the lens are very eye catching.
The colour palette choice that chases away the many colours leaving only the blue of the sky or the bright colours of the flags and banners is good.

I think you blended the abilities of the lens with the eccentricities of the city nicely. : )

I like them all John. Great examples of using a fish eye. I struggle to get these sorts if compositions but your shots inspire me to try again

Thanks everybody! The lens takes a bit to get used to, and managing the distortion can be frustrating. My biggest problem was difficulty seeing the little line showing exposure in the viewfinder. I would have to expose before composing the shot. That seemed to work out well.
Sury- Those are my favorites as well, and truth be told, there were many times I was longing for my Sigma 10-20. Those were the times that I just couldn't make a good shot with the fisheye distortion.
Yildiz- That city is definitely full of eccentricities! Dannelle and I can't wait to go back.
Birma- I searched online for some shots of landscapes using fisheye lenses. I saw some great examples, and I tried to emulate them in that last shot. I recommend you pick this lens up. It is great fun!

Cool! I have never had a fisheye, but I have thought about getting one from time to time. I see that there is the m4/3 Rokinon 7.5mm fisheye for $299. Maybe someday I will pick one up. A very special purpose lens, but could be fun occasionally. You got some great photos with yours!

I don't think that is from Katrina... They heard Hurricane Isaac was coming, and they are just doing the old 'duck and cover'.!!
