Looks like the get together of Adobe, Apple, Canon, Microsoft, Nokia and Sony has produced an initial unifying specification for metadata.

Yes, and it's probably a safe bet that Microsoft is the glue that is holding it all together and getting those seperate parties into the one place together, it's a pity that Nikon, Pentax, Oly etc. aren't included as well, but they will probably adopt the new standard in due course anyway.

I don't know if you followed the process of the 'standardization' of open-office XML documents. I would'nt say Microsoft is the glue, but rather they're the money. They'd do anything to get in control of this metadata market. Once published, they'll add in their own extensions, tying customers to their products. Just my toosee.

Well, it's definitly a good thing.

I like how the main thing is GPS information, always good, though EXIF has had spots for that for a long time. Of course the irony of Sony being part of this and being a maker of many GPS devices except for GPS support in cameras continues. Come on Sony, get it right.
