Samyang tilt-shift 24mm f3.5 announced
This isn't something I am all that interested in, but many times I have seen people post about wanting a tilt-shift lens. Mounts: Canon EF, Nikon F, Pentax K and Sony A. This was announced at Photokina today:

Better than Canon or Nikon - as it allows opposed/crossed tilt-shift as well as aligned tilt-shift.

it would be SOOOO nice if Sony came with a tilt/shift adapter for the NEX mount, so we could use A mount lenses, control aperture AND AF with SAM/SSM lenses...

Quite the bargain, if it's optics are as well done as the other lenses in the line.

Re: Samyang tilt-shift 24mm f3.5 announced
It's the Nikon models which can't be moved, or older Canon and their 45mm and 90mms, you are right - the latest 17mm and 24mm models have the same function. I've only used the 17mm recently, not the 24mm which I thought was still as it always used to be.
I broke the Alpha 900 out of the studio and took it with me at the weekend. I am increasingly unhappy with the SLR/EVF thing although it has so many benefits, like the horizon level and a preview of actual exposure. This tilt/shift lens makes the full format far more attractive, but to use it you really need EVF or live view. You just can't trust focusing on the OVF screen even with the 900, I know that and it's why I sold my full frame tilt and shift adaptors and lenses and decided to use NEX equivalents.
I'm not sure whether quite serious flare issues I am getting are due to the SLT design, and need to do some comparisons using the NEX-5 with LA-EA1. But I have been impressed by what the A900 turned in from a few shots yesterday using the 28-75mm SAM.

Interesting to hear about your loss of enthusiasm for EVFs on SLRs, David. Is this an EVF issue you have or just with their use on SLRs?David Kilpatrick wrote:I broke the Alpha 900 out of the studio and took it with me at the weekend. I was doing some work with a Canon 5D II and TSE II 24/3.5 last week in the rock strewn rivers and beaches of Wester Ross. I used both OVF (mattescreen) and Live View for focusing but was eventually forced to revert to OVF alone as my eyes will not focus at LCD range - the practicality of trying to view a non-tilting LCD in LV mode through a Hoodman while focusing with one hand and adjusting the tilt with the other was simply beyond me, although I imagine comical to observe. However, most of my photos, which generally encompassed a field of view from a few inches away to 50 yards or so, are in critical focus throughout the range. So it can be done with OVF although an EVF would undoubtedly be better. However, another solution (which I did not try but will on another occasion) is to use an angle finder with magnified view, like my old Minolta piece, which fits both the 5D Ii and my trusty A900. I must say that I greatly prefer the A900 to the 5D II, whose ergonomics and convoluted menu I find tiresome, but for tilt & shift work Canon and Nikon have had the field to themselves and the second generation Canon TSE lenses are outstanding. However, if the Samyang 24/3.5 TS lens is of the same quality as say their 35/1.4 the ability to mount Sony alpha cameras is fantastic news, not just for use with the a99 but also with the wonderful ovf on the a900.

The Samyang 24mm F3.5 TILT SHIFT LENS f/SONY ALPHA at B&H is actually $999.00 on pre-order.

Still not a bad price if it is as good as CAN/NIK on IQ.
I might consider one if the UK price comes in around £800 if Metabones release an A mount to NEX Speed Booster converter. That would give me near enough a 24 and 35 mm T&S on NEX and my A580. Not interested in a Canon fit to NEX.

One thousand dollars for a Samyang? Isn't that kind-of like $60,000 for a Hyundai? I suppose if they're offering a manual focus lens where all the first-party choices are manual focus anyway, then they can act as uppity as they please.

Re: Samyang tilt-shift 24mm f3.5 announced
Kevin, I guess the pricing is quite right, I wouldn't expect any cheaper. If you've seen the quality of other Samyang lenses you would agree too (I have used and still using the 85 and 14mm lenses, and they are superb. As for the 24 and 35 mm lenses, I have seen quite good results on the forums).
I guess if Sony would manufacture one, the price would be around 2500-3000 USD, so go Samyang, go. That lens is on my wish list.

It's a specialist need for t&s lenses but there is a market for this. Initial release price of $1000 that will drop.
If I'm right the equivalent Canon leaves you with a £1600 wallet dent so if this is about £800 that's not bad really

Lenstip posted some sample images (on a Canon): http://www.lenstip.com/2043-news-Samyan ... mages.html
I find these samples really soft, even stopped down.
