a900, display very bright an crisp, pics underexposed

Hi community!
As a long time minolta photographer, since the days of XD7, X700, I presently use a Dynax 7D, an newly the a900.
The 7D is mainly set aside because of reviews stating that on the a900, evaluating taken pictures is hihgly improved. And FF is finally back to the days that we had control over DOF.

First pics with the a900 are a bit dissapointing. Judging the pics on the display, I tend to underexpose. Pics on the display look bright an crips as if miracles have happend to taking pics with the a900.
The pics though are not that bright and crisp, rather dull, underexposed more like.
I already changed the brightnes of the display back to standard.

Now you all gonna say to me, change to RAW, as I'm still used taking pics in Jpeg...........

Reverse for me - working outdoors I thought I was underexposing, and increased exposure. Wrong! Use the Intelligent Preview, or check to histograms after shooting - don't judge just on the brightness you think you see on the LCD.

Sometimes that shows with my A700 too. So no big problem.

Still, on any compact camera that's just what you do, check if your pics are taken right.
I'm sure after some time I'll get it right, but it will take a bit practise, as did with the 7D.

I just hoped it was a bit easier.

As I've been reading, the display is about the same as the 700, so those users might have about the same experience.

I must say that I often take pics manually, indoors, with flash, change settings of different flash units and camera settings. No problems when reyling on metering.

I think the a900 reminds me of working with transparencies like Velvia 50 shot at ISO 40 and the Kodacrome films using only the jpeg image that comes out of the camera. Post processed from Raw, I think you get better images. Mine tends to underexpose about 1/3 of a stop to protect the highlights. The K/M 7D did the same thing.

I think any metering system in any camera takes a little getting used to. Practice is required.
