Memories of Cuba

Unread post by Ossie »

I ticked another country off my bucket list when I visited Cuba earlier this year. I came away with very mixed emotions about the place.

Here are a few images. Apologies if you prefer straight shots but somehow they didn't feel quite right for Cuba and so I have played around with them in Photoshop and Nik Effects to get the feeling I wanted.

Interesting pictures Ossie and I like the processing you have used. The old cars are an iconic image of Cuba and I really like the images you have here. I like the picture of the three girls sitting on the steps as well - it looks like they all have a story to tell.

Like stepping back into a certain era and culture...

Thanks for sharing, Ossie. The processing enhances the subjects.

Just love every one of those shots Ossie. If that guy gave me a cigar I’de be so tempted to try one even though I don’t smoke. ;^)

Cool photos! You don't need to make any apologies. My philosophy is that you can do what you like and show it. If people like it then fine, but it usually isn't a good idea to suppress your own sense and adopt what other people think about your photos. Do that and you will be changing all the time going this way and that because many people will have various and differing opinions. Trust yourself. By the way, your own sense can sometimes change over time, but that is a different issue.

Very nice Ossie - those pictures have a timeless quality - they could be from any time in the last 70 or so years :)

Bakubo, Thank you for your comments.

Birma Thank you too and you've hit the nail on the head as that is how I saw Cuba

The story the people shots tell is very good. The vintage cars are cool. I don't like the processing though, not my cup of tea.
