I've been away from photography for a while. Had the chance to go out 2 times this week. Here are a few results.

A young male Great Spotted Woodpecker was looking for food on the ground.

Wowzer Mark, that is some Woodpecker shot, (I have heard they are difficult to photograph), and the others are great moments as well. Nicely done.

I thought of the same thing DA, with the Cygnets, they are ‘supposed’ to take the queue from Mum and follow behind like well-behaved children…aren’t they?
It might be an aquatic trait maybe, I remember the time when we suddenly had a whole passel of goslings in the store area at work with forklifts and people going back and forth, and then in short order we also had the parents sitting on the railing of the mezzanine floor above honking at their brats below (two large geese INSIDE the shed, they must have flown in through the open roller door). Boy was that fun trying to round up eight goslings (everything else came to a standstill) under pallets and behind things, (we ran out of peeping sounds eventually) and put them in a large cardboard box.
Then for some reason it was my job to re-find the parents (they had flown back out the door by then and no one saw which way they went), I did eventually spot a couple of Geese land over in the large canal/drain on the OTHER side of the very busy four lane highway, (the little varmints had obviously crossed that road through all the traffic).
I put the box of peeping goslings in the back of my truck and drove around to the canal, successfully re-uniting them with their parents (it was something to behold to observe that re-union, great excitement was obvious, for them to see their little darlings again).
So on reflection I suppose it should come as no surprise that those Cygnets are out in front of Mum, they’ve got places to go and things to see.

Good shot ValeryD. A fine specimen atop the tree. I would think there are few if any mice & such around your yard!
