I saw and read a post of Andy's in an other topic thread on his future destinations, dreams, woulld-be equipment where he designated a neat trip plan...

I only would back such a neat journey of Photoclubalpha members! Would love to have a cup of Turkish Coffee by the Bosphorus with good friends. : ))

Here's a proof that I mean it. Thankfully without spilling the coffee, yet tilting it a little, I managed to hold the saucer high in the air in my left hand while holding the camera with my right hand. I managed to compose a frame that delivers the message I think....

Nothing smells like freshly roasted, then ground and instantly made coffee. Something awakening and stimulating in that freshness .... Coffee shop on the side? Who knows, maybe. A good place for different kinds of people to come together.

Edit: Just saw your post, David. What a heart-warming photo! I'm sure that it works wonderfully after a long, wind beaten day, not to mention a long day's shooting. : )

Local time: 11:15 am. Pretty hot here in Istanbul already... We may have a cooler weather tomorrow though wich I'm counting on...

Working at home at the moment and just saw this dark slate of smoke in our horizon on the Marmara Sea; maybe a fire smoke from an other district. We do have forest fires lately that are reported in the news. I really don't know though.

I love the view of the boats zipping this way and that Yildiz. My guess would be smoke from fires as well. I hope you will excuse photos that are not from today, but it shows a similar occurrence in the Hebrides. Here they have a 'controlled' burn of the moor-land in the spring to encourage new growth of grass and heather. After a very still day you can see the results of the moor burning over the neighbouring island of North Uist (picture taken from Skye).

Interesting pictures Yildiz and Birma, is that an inversion layer over Istanbul? We had one here once and they aren’t very nice, the smog and smoke gets trapped under the temperature boundary layer and can hang around for a while.
I didn’t know they burned off the moor Birma; I guess that would generate a lot of smoke, do they burn much of it?

Wash days or any other chore days have the potential of creating some very 'creative' language exchanges; words that never appeared in the dictionary before or the way they are pronounced... Must get through the day without too much damage that can't be undone.

Andy, the shots you uploaded of the Hebrides tell a fine story of such smoke activity once risen to a certain height in the sky. Looks very similar in property but the line of smoke in my photo being rather parrallel to the horizon may be due to what Greg calls Inversion. There sure is some kind of dark grey smoke but it appears that it cannot penetrate to upper levels and become irregular shaped like th eones in yor photos.

I like your photos, by the way. Great colours in that sunset. The first is very tranquil with eye-pleasing shades and ever extending foreground.

Greg, as I mentioned earlier, you probably are right because the line is very straight and unwavering.

Thank you for the meteorological explanation Greg. They tend to burn the moor in small patches, cycling through different areas each year. There is a subsidy payment attached to it as it is meant to benefit wildlife. As it had been a relatively dry spring this year several burnings got out of hand and required the local fire brigade to get things under control.

Thank you Yildiz. The smoke clouds made for some interesting sunset pictures. This was some consolation as it blocked the low sun from striking a row of cliffs I had been hoping to picture bathed in the last glow of light. Perhaps next time .

Today (if we make it) will be the first calender month with no rain ever recorded. All time driest July, 34 days of dry weather.


Very nice shots Yildiz & Birma. Plenty of marine traffic with quite a mixed bag of vessles Yildiz. I really like the setting sun thru the smoke Birma. The other 2 are also very nice.

Stopped the car to take this in Ladner today. The field these horses are in could do with a few heavy showers to help make the grass grow some.
