Cornwall: sun, sea and clotted cream

The holidays are over for us, and we are returned from Cornwall in the SW tip of the UK. A beautiful part of the country. Lots of rugged coastlines, beautiful beaches, tiny harbour towns, lots of flowers and gardens, but also very busy in the holidays! There is lots to photograph and I'm sure some other forum members will have some pictures from this part of the country so please feel free to share them here. Needless to say, I took lots of pictures while there .

While in Cornwall we were staying in Charlestown, a village with a small harbour just outside of St. Austell on the South East Coast of Cornwall. The harbour faced East and so I found it irresistible as an early morning location and I enjoyed seeing how the light on different days looks and exploring different ways to photograph the harbour.

I liked the angles created by this view and took a long exposure to flatten the water in the harbour.

There is lots to do by the sea, even if you are not a nautical type. We took a ride on a small ferry that run between Mevagissey and Fowey. We were lucky to be there during the Fowey Regatta and the ferry went right through the sailings boats. The boat in the foreground here is a type known as a Falmouth Working Boat. You can read about them here http://falmouthworkingboats.btck.co.uk. They are now a type of racing yacht based on a design that was used to dredge for oysters in the area. I like the coloured sails which are used to distinguish the different craft. This is Agnes.

This part of the coast is along the English Channel which is a busy shipping lane, hence the contrast with the big commercial vessel in the background.

Beautiful images. I'd share mine, but the last time I was in Cornwall, it was 1979, and I was using my Zenit E!

Thanks AA . I wonder how much has changed since '79. I expect the roads were quieter then.

The roads were a lot quieter, there were fewer surfers in campervans, and not so many binge drinking teenagers in Newquay!

These photos depict how beautiful Cornwall is, Birma.

The technique used for the first one works nicely...though hard to imagine any sea or ocean to be like that in real, phototography makes it possible.

That's a change of direction from usual Birma, interesting launching ramp and protective harbour. The dogleg style would stop most of the waves when launching and retrieving, very smart. Good shots, any more?

Nice sunset shots AA from the West coast of Cornwall. I have some similar sunrise pictures from the East coast when I can get round to processing them.

This is just after sunrise, but before th sun had risen above the headland near Charlestown. Another long exposure shot.

Here is one focusing on a detail fom the Harbour at Charlestown. Despite the messy 'birds nest' of rope the one length stretching out here was actually attached to a boat. I hope it is nice and secure

A beautiful sunrise shot, Birma. The long exposure works nicely on this one as well.

I love the rope that's almost shredded. The B&W processing brings out the details.

I like coastal scenes like these and I don’t think I’ve seen Cornwall before, I like the B&W rope especially Birma, that is a good one and well spotted.
It looks like the boat drags the rope across the stonework quite a bit.
