Cornwall: sun, sea and clotted cream

Yes the humidity is very noticeable in the rainforest but at that place it had a cooling effect I think, like a humidifier-evaporator-fan unit cools the air down, mind you it might still seem warm to someone not used to a warm climate, but outside in the scrubland in mid-summer it’s a cook the egg on the bonnet type deal, hot-ish out there for sure if there is no breeze blowing.
I reckon to get the full rainforest experience you need the birds, frogs, slugs, snails, ants, spiders, leeches, centipedes, scorpions, fungi, snakes, lizards, moths, beetles, butterflies, grubs, march flies, mosquitos, ticks and other assorted greeblies as well. You need to be able to tip a bit of salt on a leech and watch it shrivel then you know you are really there, so to speak.

Yeah - I was glad that this was a highly artificial environment and so a minimal number of 'greeblies' as you say

This is a sculpture constructed as part of the woodland work at the Lost Garden oh Heligan. It is called the Mud Maid. At some times of year she has flowers growing on her, especially around her hair. We had to do with just greenery.

The sea looks very placid Birma, I suppose the longish exposure helped with that, it’s a relaxing type scene I think, while I don’t know what to make of the abstract sculpture, it’s more of a half-buried arm plus some overgrown lumps than anything, but hey it’s ‘different’ and therefore attention grabbing and intriguing.

Thanks Greg. Here a couple more of a 'boaty' nature. Cornwall is famous for its tiny fishing harbours and Mevagissey must be one of the most popular for good reason. Chock full of colourful boats and always plenty happening.

Great shots of the harbour and the boats, Birma.

I like the uniform size and looks of the buildings as they ascend on the highlands and the busy boats in the foreground. Very fulfilling site. And a nice 'blue' colour all round; sea, sky and even some of he boats. Good, sunny day to be out and about.

A couple more from Cornwall. First another from the fishing pier at Mevagissey in the sunshine. Once again I was drawn to the colourful gear and paraphernalia on the pier-side.

Another from Charlestown harbour, early in the morning. This was a more cloudy morning and gave a different feel. I liked the figure at the end of the harbour wall. He was actually fishing, but I like the impression from the silhouette of the figure gazing out at the sparkling sea.

Pier of Mevagissey is adorable, Birma.

If people hadn't actually lived there and worked their way through the hardship of making a living here, it is almost like my dream 'toy land city on the island', that picturesque.

By the way, saw any fish actually caught in the fishing boats or sold in the premises? What do they mostly catch? Hope I'm not too curious... : )

Thank you Yildiz. All of the little Cornish towns are great to visit, especially if you like seafood . The only downside in the summer is that they can be really, really busy. It was sometimes very difficult to get the shot I wanted as there were people everywhere during the day (nice and quiet at sunrise though ). I waited quite a time to get these shots of the fishing piers as they were teaming with other photographers!

There is a big selection of fish caught. Things we saw were haddock, mackerel, crab, lobster, scallops, pollock, plaice, and shrimps. I'm sure there are more things as well.

A couple more from Cornwall, moving away from the fishing boats for a moment. First, still in harbour, these are a couple of rusty bollards that must have been used to tie up boats at some time. I just liked the texture of the years of accumulated oxidisation.

Back to the wonderful gardens of Cornwall. This is Trebah Garden. It is mainly structured around a small valley leading down from the 'big' house to the coast. At the bottom of the valley is this little lake.

The eagle eyed amongst you may be able to see Tilly leaning over a fence in the lower right hand part of the frame. I'm annoyed I didn't see the potential of a close-up on her from this position. I wish I had switched lenses to something longer and taken a shot of her and her reflection as well.
