I’m trying to imagine what kind of disguise Valery adopted to get so close to the Plover (I think) to get those excellent shots, maybe dressed up as a rather large hermit crab maybe or a large piece of driftwood, but great work whatever it was. 8)

Yeah good one Valery, a ‘pet’ hermit crab that can type no less, hmmm I think I smell a leg pull there somewhere, but good action shot just the same.
I’ve seen the great Plover and eggs shot before I think but it’s still as good as before, it sure is an outstanding photo.

Sury, you do yourself an injustice! With a bit of PP it really is a fine image. With your permission? I hope you don't object...

It’s a plenty good enough capture to get an ID Sury, it’s a Red Crested Cardinal, (introduced from South America) I’m pretty sure it is anyway. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-crested_Cardinal

ps I agree Cogito, I think Valery has discovered the secret of invisibility.

My secret is very simple - I never go straight to the animal, use a "zigzag motion", or even be a little bit away from the animal. Direct traffic for the animal to be an attack of the animal. :)

PS. Thank you for the comments!

Great Heron shot Valery. Your zigzag approach sounds interesting.

Marvellous Heron shot Valery.
I have tried many kinds of approaches to birds including zig-zag (can work here sort-of, depends on the individual bird) but I think the birds here have worked out from prior experience when humans are involved there are two types of birds, live smart ones and dead dumb ones. Just as an example I noticed one day that the local Egrets won’t let you within fifty metres of them while walking, but you can go by some of them reasonably close in a boat, as long as you don’t stop.
