Hamar Bull Jumping (coming of age of the young Mamar); if he makes the crossing without falling, he gets to marry the girl of his choice; if he falls, the village chief chooses a widow for him.

That sounds like a lot more reasonable way of doing it than modern dating. Of course, I'm pretty sure the girls aren't too keen on not getting a say!
