My Sony Alpha A700 Took a DUMP Already!!

I think that the service has something to do wih location and not Sony. Whn I got my first a700 last year, one of the first in Beijing, I crack the screen a month after. I took the camera down to Sony repair center in Beijing. The center is only for Sony and managed by Sony. The lady at the front desk told me that it would probably take a month to get that fixed as the camera was new and parts not available directly from beijng. Then the manager came and told me that he'll take care of it personnaly and wait for his call. 6 days later I was called with the camera fixed.

I called in today and they still have NOTHING to tell me! In-fact...the email status check they did on Friday will not be available until Wed! It takes 5+ days (including the weekend) to get an email report from the tech!
...
Not only are they slow as molasses...somehow they have been able to make email work slower than stone age communications!

I spoke with a nice Sony guy (I didn't really expect having accest to one of the heads of the marketing department) and, I told him about how bad we see Precision camera as interface for repairs. He told me taht we are not forced to send the equipment there, you can ask, when you get a "repair ticket" to send your equipment to Laredo (Sony facility)

I have a couple of 5600 for reapir, and a couple of Minolta lenses that I will to send for a CLA that I'll never send to Precision!

Double Bingo...the camera is suddenly out of repair, and I have a UPS tracking number in hand! Crossing fingers and hoping all is good with the camera when it arrives.

Thats good news... still took toolong even if you could excuse them for not updating your order ontheir web site.. looks like i'm going to try out Canon service now... I brought home a friends 350D he wanted me to shoot some comparison shots around my property but I got home late and was going to try the morning instead but playing with it here trying to see if it focuses better in tungsten light than my A700/A200 does (It doesn't) it stopped being able to write the pictures to the card.. won't format a card either. I even tried my own card in it and formatted them in my PC too. guess i'll have to get it fixed for him, battery is charging now in case thats what it was and I can't find a hard reset on it, just my luck

The 350D has a very poor card slot compared to KM/Sony products. My daughter sold her 300D which uses the same slot to here employers when she got a 400D. Within one day, someone had bent the pins in the interface because it was possible to insert a CF card the back to front very easily. £120 repair.

well the cards can go is a little crooked but theres no damage to the pins. it started working again with the full charged battery.... it's making the hair on the back of my neck stand up now.. do I try and get it fixed or not ? I'll ask him when he comes in and see if it's done it before. if I'm paying for a repair I'd prefer definite broke than sometimes broke

I got a few minutes last night looking for diferent camera repair centres. Precision definatly seems like th biggest of them all.. maybe Sonty had no choice but to go with them? Probably the only reason Sony does their own repairs here is that the market is so small that they can get the techs from the pro side to do them since theres so few. although the place Sony has do their P&S cameras here is top knotch too. 3 days turnaround for the sensor recall on my F717... maybe next time you can ask to send it to Toronto

Oh and on the Canon .. "OH that .. it Does that all the time" here I spent the night feeling bad too...

Good luck with it Don. I hope they really do the right job with setting it all up again, I never trust repairs not to throw up new problems - but they should have been extra careful with you after all the waiting.
