Thanks for the great comment Hefay! It sounds to me that you've got a great photographic eye with a sense for feelings. Most of the time I hear comments that could be described 'technical' and very rarely hear anything about how people feel. I don't blame others, I too have problem to engage emotianally with pictures that are just images on a screen - on paper they often work better.the_hefay wrote:Technically speaking - I think the dark outfit really does well in the image; in some respects being both part of the background and yet separate from it. Emotionally speaking - Although the rain is unseen, I can certainly feel it falling on my face as this image takes me back a similar experience in my childhood. Another thing I see in the picture is love. Specifically it is the care given in bundling the child. Memories of dressing my daughter up for going outside in weather that's other than ideal have flooded my thinking. Thanks for the wonderful and thought provoking image.
To be honest, I know that I'm not very good with the technical aspects of photography. In fact I rarely like a photograph just because it is technically good or even perfect. I have found personally, that photographs that I enjoy always pull at my emotions, but many times I'm unable to really articulate what it is that's going on in my mind. With this photo of her standing in the rain it all was very clear to me why I liked it. Also, thanks for sharing a little more about your experiences with her, the rain, the umbrella, the camera, etc. It added even more realism to the photo.Kalainen wrote:Thanks for the great comment Hefay! To tell you a bit about the background of this image, I've taken Aura couple of times to rain in the dark nights just because she likes it a lot. We often have a little flashlight with us, so we can 'explore in the darkness'. I would love to photograph her more often in rain, but in practice it's often difficult. The Sony Nex-5N doesn't like to get wet and there's usually just the two of us, which means I need to hold umbrella at the same time as I shoot Aura. I don't get much keepers with those metods, but getting at least one good one is enough.

You know, I have really grown to appreciate views from those who are not tangled with a technical issues and can approach photography (and other art) from certain 'humanistic point of view'. I've found the almost always they become the better photographers (and artists) in the end. And I envy them, because I'm a bit too 'techie' guy myself. For example, I rely too much on post processing and it often makes me blind for other aspects. With the photography I've deliberetly tried to be 'content first - details later' guy, and this project has helped me a bit in this, but it still varies.
