AEL button on A900

AEL button on A900

I've been playing with two A900s, and they both have what looks to me like an issue. The AEL button, the inner part, actually moves if you press and rotate it, making the AEL not horizontal. On my A700, the button is rock solid. Can anyone with an A900 check theirs?

The AEL button is floating on a sealing gasket and skin to weatherproof the camera. You have just found a way to make it look bad, but actually it is better.

Hi David, that was my first thought, but then I was worried that pushing and turning would break the skin. I asked on DPReview and two A900 users said that their button is solid.

It does look odd to see "AEL" at a weird angle, not horizontal, and no other buttons are like that, not even the AEL on the vertical grip, although there's no exposure ring under it there, so it's not so raised.

They are probably not doing what you were. To make the button go a bit out of line, press it and then turn the outer collar (metering mode switch) while pressing. It will turn slightly. Reversing the process restores it to alignment. It is not loose. I've seen a diagram of all the button seals on the camera and the mechanisms are pretty complex, I am sure this is a result of the way the assembly is built with the weather sealing.
