Image-Upload Failure

Unread post by aster »

Hi,

Any reason why I can't link to a photo at an other site? I didn't experience this with my previous image uploads. I've been trying for over an hour now and it fails continously for me.

Hi Yildiz!

Please describe the steps you take. Are you using the url-tags on this forum to show an image uploaded on another server?

It's a good thing that there's a wizard and a doctor in the house!! :)

Here goes the problem then:

I attached two screengrabs of the actual failures. The size of the file doesn't matter, I just get the same error line in red lettering. This happenns everytime I wish to link to an image on an other website. I used this method earlier and never got this error report.

I checked the file sizes that other members linked to and saw that they had no problems with bigger files. So it doesn't appear to be a file size issue.

Thanks,
Yildiz

I tried to make a test with your picture, so found the location and inserted the appropriate link to the picture and made a "Preview". I was directly asked to log to photoclubalpha, which I did and repeated the sequence. After a few tries I got luck.
But, before submitting anything just make sure you "select all" and "Copy" then go for the "Submit" button. It's quite probable you'll get the same error message. Just repeat the steps very quickly by "Paste"-ing every time. After a few tries you'll be rewarded.
I encountered this problem lately so had to find a remedy.
In case this message will not go from the first time, I'm already "Select all"-ing, and "Copy" (you know, just in case).
So good luck Yildiz, and keeping fingers crossed. :D

EDIT: BTW, this message went after relogging 5 times (hope this line will go quickly) (anyway, CTRL+C)

Sorry, it won't be happening Dr. Harout.

I still get the same result. This is wasting a lot of my time, therefore I won't try uploading any more photos to Photoclubalpha.

Thanks anyway,
Yildiz

Hi Yildiz!

Actually, imageshack gives you the code to use on a forum (see below your uploaded picture) - so why not use it? :)

Code: Select all

And the result:
Image
Image

The reason why it wont work is that phpBB expects an image file but if you examine your URL's closely you'll see that you are requesting a .php-file! (.imageshack.us/my.php?...) this is how imageshack have solved it to get the framing and comments a.s.o surrounding the picture.

Don't let this discourage you Yildiz, we want to see your wonderful pictures and are here to help :D
Just use the code as I did.

Since you're a wizard who's tall and little at the same time but with much help in the palm of his hand, I would like to grant you with two little glittering stars on each shoulder!! A promotion to stardom...what do you say?!! :D

On the subject;
Dear Sebastian, thank you, but the upload of my previous photos in an other thread did not use your method. Somehow, it used the first code line only, with the 'jpg' and went through fine. That's what I did this time round too and failed.

Still though, I will try to start the thread I was going for... :D with what you just suggested this time.

Hi again Yildiz!

Your offer of the stars is very tempting... but it is rewarding enough to be able to make people happy (or happier?) by helping them the best I'm able to.
I try to live by "help others in need and you shall receive help when needed" as much as possible :)
If you mean the thread about your new lovely tool, CZ 16-80 - then the answer is simple as this: You used the "right" line from imageshack... I.e: the one not containing a .php-file.
So to summarize...

When using imageshack (or other similar imagehosts with php or other scripts serving images)

Use this line:

Code: Select all

http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/3520/dsc069681900shf3.jpg
Avoid this line...

Code: Select all

http://img392.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc069681900shf3.jpg
Do you see the difference? my.php?image= gives it away...

Thanks Zeb, :D

I'll keep the difference live in my mind.
I'll be crossing my fingers for Santa to treat you generously this year and surprise you with things special then. He probably knows best... :)

Thanks again,

It turns out that I had the dumbest suggestion :?
But how about the problem I described above?
BTW, since that happened again and was forced to log in again, I am copying my text, just in case...

Hi Dr. Harout,

I forgot to thank you for all the trouble you went to try and diagnose the linking problem I had earlier. It appears that you are experiencing a different problem of being 'autumaticly logged out' of the website then and losing all your messages too?

Exactly. :(

That's weird...
Maybe you should contact the site admins/webmasters and convey the problem?
