A dear friend of mine (20+ years) was killed in an auto accident on Tuesday. We played golf together several times a year whether it be here in Maryland or in North Carolina where he lived. You can learn a lot about someone when golfing with them. You see how they handle adversity and success. You know whether they respect the rules as well as the opponent. Your learn about their life and dreams. All of these things are possible because of a little white ball, an open field, and the time to take notice.
One thing about Pete, he loved baseball. He was a catcher on his college baseball team and could throw a ball through a brick wall if he wanted to. He was small and quiet but filled the shoes of a captain on the field like a giant.
Upon hearing the news this morning, I went to a place to remember him. Like this converted baseball field, for Pete there will be no more games. I already miss my friend.
