Me and my photos in Honolulu newspaper

Unread post by bakubo »

This is really late, but I thought I would just mention something that happened a few months ago here in Hawaii. The other post about someone asking for the use of their photos made me think of this. The Honolulu Star-Bulletin newspaper published a full-page spread of my photos and a short article about me. It is also on their website:

http://www.starbulletin.com/features/fe ... ctive.html

Not a big deal and I know that some of you, David et al, have had stuff published countless times over the years. It has not been a focus for me over the last 35 years so when it happened it brought a small smile to my face. :)

Here is a photo of the actual newspaper page.

Your stuff is great. you really should have a book published on your travels and stories let alone a newspaper page.

Congratulations Bakubo, :D

That's a very nice news. As Javelin said already, you should start compiling for a book already. Life is unpredictable, you never can know what happens.

Good luck,

Congratulations Henry.
I remember when you were asking advice/suggestions on some photos. So it was for this. :)
I join other posters to suggest having a book published, you really have lots of wonderful, beautiful and worthy pictures.
Keep up the good work. :D

Congratulations Henry. It is well deserved coverage of an amazing portfolio. As the others have said a book at the very least would be required. In fact, I think a TV mini-series would be required where you revisit the sites of some of your favourite pictures. Now, if only we had a Sony v-dslr you could film it yourself without the need for extra equipment on your trips :D .

Well it is a big deal, it's great to get some recognition for your work and efforts.
I like the photos very much.
Papua New Guinea, sounds a bit dangerous to me, but maybe I read to many head shrinking stories ;-)

Never too late - Congratulations! Not all have the chance to travel all around the world, but you also use it to share some great pics and open our eyes to parts of this world we've never seen.

Actually, when I was asking about some of my B&W West Papua photos some months back it was for a different reason and unrelated to this thing in the newspaper.

I have not kept a consistent journal over the years so that is a bit of problem with regards to a book. The only time I kept one and wrote in it everyday was the first time I lived and worked in Japan for a few years. I still have it and I bet it would be fun to go back and read it. I'll have to do that. I recall that there was lots of things about my impressions of Japanese culture, funny incidents, misunderstandings, and so on. Also, I was single at the time so I suspect I wrote things about various girlfriends. :) I wonder if I will embarrass myself by reading it again. :)

Somewhere I have one that I kept while on a 10 week camping safari in Africa in 1993. I don't know where it is, but I know I haven't thrown it out. I haven't looked at it since then so I don't know what I wrote in it, but I recall I met a vivacious young English woman there and we developed a very flirtatious relationship among other things so I probably have stuff about her in it. It would be fun to go back and read it. :)

Indeed a nice job Henry!

I know what you mean about keeping a journal. I did that for the first 6 months in Brazil, but never kept a regular one afterward. I think my travels and other activities would be sufficient to write a book some day, but now I'm not sure I have all the memories I need to do so.

Perhaps a travel thru the photo archive may help.
