Very much so. I use flash WB and the sun becomes a warm, diffused second light, while the flash becomes my main. If I overpower the sun too much, at worst the underexposed surroundings make it look like they're in front of a backdrop, but then there's no denying that they're interacting with the environment. If that happens, I'll just move the flash stand back by 20% or so and get a more natural diffusion.

It's very relaxed and full of pleasant surprises. Waiting for the flash to recharge, listening for that characteristic whine, lets my subjects have a periodic moment to rest their smiles and start little casual interactions, which I promptly capture :D . Since I'm painting with the light anyway, the viewfinder image matters very little (getting back on topic)--I could do it with the camera on a tripod and a cable release if I was confident of the composition and background. But again, I could not do it without that broad range of usable flash sync speeds.

I guess you could always chuck on an ND as well for an extra couple of dawn shots..if you were desperate.
Greg

ps. did you organize a counterweight for the flash stand? like tied too a heavy houseblock or such.

Nope, and that's how I lost my Seagull SC-6. But I will in the future.

Yeah KB that's what I was thinking of, I saw the post but I didn't get involved at the time, not much point really, what's done is done so to speak....ie. chit happens....
Greg

ps. Maybe you could pinch three of the tent ropes and pegs instead.
