That garden of yours really is a bird paradise affording enough shade in the in
that hot weather you get. Wish I was at that table right now! we had a good snow
fall and a dive in temp, minus 7ºc. tonight. Very nice photos Greg.

Great stuff Henry, those two would make very nice postcards.

The little family is still there again tonight, I didn't take a photo though. Yildiz offhand, there is a couple of things I was keen on trying that came from Turkey, the Quince jam of yours and that bread fresh from the oven you got that time when you visited your father, but alas owing to customs restrictions on the one hand and the time it would take to fly here on the other, neither would be possible in real life, so I'll just have to use my imagination.
You are kidding me DA, 7C below zero kaf kaf, I'm almost half frozen thinking about it, lovely wintery shot though...it's a wonder the window isn't fogged up, what with the arctic temperature outside and presumably warmer temp. on the inside?
I'm getting visions of the movie The Day After Tomorrow when the heilos went down because the fuel systems froze and then that guy opened the sliding door on the side and snap froze in mid motion....that's me over there.

All that snow looks great! I almost never see snow these days. I saw a lot of snow at Cypress Mountain right outside Vancouver, BC in 2003:

That is up on the North Shore during the winter. The waves are sometimes 30 feet or so. I suppose they occasionally are even bigger, but 20-30 feet is what is more common when they have big swells.

Actually, quite the opposite. It was soft. That close-up is almost a macro. It had fallen during the night and I went up to the mountain in the morning when the sun was out. Contrast enhanced.

I slid the window open Greg. Not fogged up but leaded
and could use a hose on the outside. Well the skiers are
happy with the weather, headed to Whistler & the local
mountains as nicely shown by Henry.

Pleasant scene DA, I'm not totally keen on the -3ºC though, water turns to ice at 0ºC, and I stop functioning at around 5ºC

It was showing 13.8C on the outdoor thermometer in the sun this morning, but we are promised 3C maximum by the end of the week and -10C overnight. The hens are too bloody-minded to stop roosting in trees and use their henhouse, so I may have to lock them in. Three hens in a house doesn't create a lot of heat but could mean the difference between finding a deep frozen chicken in the morning instead of getting a visit to my window to ask for a snack.

My sister has half a dozen or so chookies like those, very similar in colour anyway. They wander all over the place in a little group, sometimes one builds a secret nest somewhere with a bunch of eggs in it, alas there is no rooster, so the effort was always doomed to failure. Good to see the poor lonely chicken has got company this winter David, just have to make the coop foxproof now I guess.

This morning's sunshine and the threat of a very hard frost got me outside this afternoon to shift their henhouse and run fifty feet to a patch of garden which gets some sunshine in winter. Not much does, we have a high riverbank to the south which cuts a few degrees off the sky, followed by a house built on our former land which casts too much shadow, then a stand of very tall cypress tress. The henhouse was getting zero direct sun, with all the rain it was so damp the wood was starting to rot in a few places. But it's shifted, the hens have been persuaded to enter the run, I've rigged up some cover to stop their food getting wet and locked them in. Many complaints and much stomping around inside the henhouse, but they are now inside for the night and will stay that way as long as we get frost or snow. A week locked in, and they will automatically go back anyway once they are allowed to have the run open.

Next thought: did the low-cost online booked car servicing place put the right concentration of winter screenwash antifreeze in the car? I know the authorised service agent always does, but I suspect the independent garage I used may not have been as generous in October. Time to top up the wash tank with concentrate, I think, before tonight.
