Taken yesterday and post processed today. A 70-odd vertical and horizontal image stack of the local church with the old school house behind right. The school was still used as such till around 10 years ago. It's now a pre school nursery and community centre.

Pat,
Very clean given it is a two dimensional stitch. Nice shot too. Is that perspective expected when you do
that amount of stitching? I always thought one of the drawbacks of stitching is the loss of the perspective
compared to a wide angle and image tends to be "flat". But I may well be wrong to think that way. What stitching
SW did you use?

With best regards,
Sury

I suppose the amount of distortion depends on which lens you use with what focal length. For this I used my 17-50mm at 50mm, obviously. At 17mm it probably wouldn't have stitched :D My 90mm Macro does quite good stitches as it distorts even less - but the amount of images needed for this particular image would have been over 100. I have done stitches with my 300mm lens before now.

This image was done over 180o with about 5 or 6 sweeps from side to side and moving upwards. That way the future layers are predictable.

I use CS4 (yes that old) to PP. I sort the RAWs out exposure wise, clarity etc en masse then save as jpgs. These I put in a droplet to reduce the size to 300dpi and 1000px max.
Then I load into PS as layers, select layers>edit >align layers by content. I find this works better than a single command to create a pano. After this I can switch the layers on and off to see what is what. I can discard any layers I don't need or find ones that have gone astray and are hiding under others. It happens - PS is not perfect. I can use the move tool to reposition any of the layers if I want.
Then I blend, flatten and treat the image the way I would any other - carefully cleaning up, dodging, burning, curves etc etc.

I love these panoramas which are stitched out of a lot of images. The amount of detail must be awesome when you zoom in. Great work Pat!

Pat,
Thank you for that detailed explanation. That explains the perspective that you have obtained. All my panoramas have been landscapes and I was using long zooms.
Well, I use PS7, if CS4 is old, that one is antique. I have used Microsoft ICE (free for now) but did not have much luck with their 2D capability (mostly my fault, I think). I had very good results when the stitching is in a single row. I did use software that came with Canon a while ago before I discovered MS ICE.

Neat pano Pat!
A65 16mm-50mm 2.8
Tamron 72E 90mm 2.8 Macro
Sony 35mm 1.8 Sony
Sony 55-300mm and 55-200mm

My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

Now there's a pano well worth looking at large! Great work and great framing/subject. I'm sure there's a plot to get me to go to Hawaii (fat chance) as one of my Canadian friends is there now. It looks an amazing place with the active volcanoes and black lava flows.
If I win the lottery...........

Maybe I posted this earlier. I used the auto panorama function of the nex with the sel501.8 macro to have extreme shallow DOF (imitating the Brenizer effect). The photo was taken in May. My daughter holds an old pentax camera:

Yes, we have lots of Canadian Snow Birds in Hawaii (and Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Florida, etc.).

Introducing her to photography in the classic way? A good idea to let children play with old cameras. Think I'll do that with my Grandson, later on ;)

I have not shot a panoramic for some time so this will have to do one of the earlier shots I got with a Dynax 5d
Dingle Bay

This morning we went for a walk on the beach at Cruden Bay.
Beautiful day with glorious sun and we actually got too warm, nearly went for a paddle.
Anyway for the first time I tried the panoramic feature on the A77, only had the 70-400 lens with me and I am delighted with the result.

The white ball on the left is an RAF radar station, the tall black chimney is Peterhead powerstation and the ruin on the headland is Slains Castle.
