  • Digital non-SLR • Re: Canon G16 review has most interest April 18, 2021
The review views are much more even now, but the Canon G16 is still #1. What is interesting is that this thread about the review thread views is by far the most popular. And, as is usual here, this forum is mostly takers with almost no givers -- not a single reply out of thousands […]

Thank you Aster!Aster is partly right about how security works. Plus, as I noticed, the forum uses php and possibly the old version. I use the latest versions of chrome, ms edge, firefox and opera, even my tablet and cellphones have android 10 with latest browsers... I don't have internet explorer. It's for a simple […]

.Henry;Since this happens on the computer's EDGE browser and since I can view all your images on my Samsung cellphone, here's what I found:I used to be able to see the same photos years ago when you posted them to the forum and the Challenge thread. Since the Windows 10 upgrades the security settings and […]

Alpha 550: sky noise, exposure and Auto ISO

My review of the Alpha 550 has caused controversy because of the blue sky noise. I might as well say that over the last week, I’ve used the 550 in a wide range of conditions – some very bad conditions included – and its failure to match ISO 100 finesse would not worry me at . . . → Read More: Alpha 550: sky noise, exposure and Auto ISO

Here’s a question which came in to my email just now:

“Could I process a RAW file in Photoshop to achieve a similar effect as if I had used a Polaroid lens filter? Or would I be better just using the Polaroid filter?”

The answer is that you can never imitate the effect of polarizing . . . → Read More: Faking a polarizer using RAW

A700, 6400 ISO, seven raw processors

There’s a lot of controversy right now about whether or not the image structure of the Alpha 700 files at very high ISO – mainly 3200 and 6400 – is as clean as raw processed results from other comparable cameras like the Canon 40D (does not offer ISO 6400), the Olympus E-3 (does not offer . . . → Read More: A700, 6400 ISO, seven raw processors

Apple Aperture 2.0 processes A700 raw

Apple’s Aperture 2.0 is a tedious program to test, with all its creation of ‘projects’ and ‘libraries’, ‘albums’, ‘vaults’ and nonstandard GUI, and it isn’t fast in processing files or passing them to Photoshop (which it does in 16-bit form, just another step to reverse before saving as far as I’m concerned). However, it’s handling . . . → Read More: Apple Aperture 2.0 processes A700 raw
