I'd wager it's the same plan as most of the other makers, perhaps even more extreme in this example. Jack up prices (a lot), to try to make up low sales in terms of value/profit. The problem with that is is drives many potential buyers away, frankly who would be crazy enough to pony up […]

One of the reasons I picked this up was to do reviews, this one just came in from TTArtisan, the 7.5mm fisheye F2.0 lens. Also has a screw in filter ND1000 at the back of the lens. Initial impressions surprisingly good even at F2 (subject to DOF being enough)As for the A6300, my thoughts are […]

Looks like lens prices are going into the outer atmosphere, just like Richard Branson! One wonders how sustainable the photo industry is, I know many makers said they were concentrating on higher margin products. This goes far beyond anything I would imagine, high prices = ever decreasing market...it's as if they have no new ideas just […]

ACR 6.2 2010 Process – huge improvement

Before the launch of the NEX models, the last camera we reviewed here was the Alpha 550. The final review pages dealt with the high ISO performance.

Faking a polarizer using RAW

Here’s a question which came in to my email just now:

“Could I process a RAW file in Photoshop to achieve a similar effect as if I had used a Polaroid lens filter? Or would I be better just using the Polaroid filter?”

The answer is that you can never imitate the effect of polarizing . . . → Read More: Faking a polarizer using RAW

Apple Aperture 2.0 processes A700 raw

Apple’s Aperture 2.0 is a tedious program to test, with all its creation of ‘projects’ and ‘libraries’, ‘albums’, ‘vaults’ and nonstandard GUI, and it isn’t fast in processing files or passing them to Photoshop (which it does in 16-bit form, just another step to reverse before saving as far as I’m concerned). However, it’s handling . . . → Read More: Apple Aperture 2.0 processes A700 raw
